Draft

And as day 2 of the draft will begin shortly, let's take a look at day 1 through my eyes.

"With the first overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft, the Houston Astros select Carlos Correa" My jaw dropped. From what I had heard, it was between Appel and Buxton. Appel, the Houston Native, should have been the sure choice. If not, Buxton and Zunino were good picks. However, Carlos Correa shocks the world as he is picked first. I do not know much about him, but maybe he will impress.

At compensation pick 41, the Astros selected Lance McCullers. I'm stoked about this pick. I'm surprised McCullers dropped that far, he is a solid, young pitcher with great potential.

Transactions

Well, I've been away for a couple days, things have been hectic lately. Anyway, here are the transactions from the last two days.

  • Travis Buck has been placed on the 15 day DL with Achilles Tendonitis. Because of this, Astros have recalled Fernando Martinez from OKC. Martinez was performing well in AAA so far, so no surprise there.
  • Matt Downs has been sent down to OKC. Jordan Lyles has taken his roster spot with the Big League club.
  • Carlos Lee has been placed on the DL with a strained Hamstring. Brett Wallace will be taking his spot on the roster, seeing his first action of the year.

Trivia Answer

Well, no one took a shot at the trivia question yesterday. For a recap, the question was...

In Astros history, what hitter leads the team in being hit by pitch?

The answer is Craig Biggio, who was plunked 285 times in his career, spanning from 1988 to 2007, all with the Astros. This ranks him 2nd on the all time list of the entire MLB with HBP, only behind Hughie Jennings.

Transactions

Happy Memorial Day to all, and thank you to those who served. Here are today's transactions.

Enerio Del Rosario has been optioned to AAA Oklahoma City today. Del Rosario has a 9.00 ERA in 6 innings this season, while walking 2 and striking out 2.

Taking Del Rosario's spot on the roster is RHP David Carpenter, called up from Oklahoma City. Carpenter has been back-and-forth between AAA and the Majors this season. So far with Houston this season, Carpenter has a 4.02 ERA in 15.2 innings.

Finally, Jordan Lyles was called up again today, and is starting Game 2 of the doubleheader in Colorado. Lyles has the potential of being a huge impact starter, possibly an ace, someday, although he has been up and down this year. So far this season, the 21 year old has a 5.29 ERA in 3 starts, walking 7 and striking out 15.

In more news, Fernando Abad has been placed on the 15 Day DL with a strain in his left side. Abad has pitched 9 innings this season and currently has a 5.00 ERA. To take his spot on the 25 Man Roster, Xavier Cedeno's contract has been purchased from AAA Oklahoma City, adding another lefty to the bullpen. Cedeno is 2-0 with an 0.42 ERA in 21 1/3 innings at OKC this season.

Transactions

Sad news (At least in my mind) as it has been reported that Corpus Christi OF T.J. Steele has been released, according to Greg Rajan via Twitter. The 25 year old Steele was drafted by Houston in the Fourth Round of the 2008 Draft. He was a New York- Penn League All Star in 2008, hitting .283. In 2009, Steele hit .345 for Lancaster. His stats faltered the last 3 seasons, hitting a combined .212 in those years for AA Corpus Christi. Filling his spot on the roster is Infielder Brandon Wikoff, reporting after Extended Spring Training.

An Introduction

Hey All! Great to start a new blog, all for my favorite team, the Astros. I'm Cam, and I'm an Astros fan living in Central Pennsylvania. It's tough living so far from Houston, but I got used to it after awhile. I'll blog everything currently happening with the team, from the Farm teams to the Bigs. Transactions, scores, projections, Prospects to watch, the whole lot. I hope to get some daily viewers, and wish this to actually be a successful blog someday. If you want to guest write, ask a question, or just say "Hi" you can shoot me an email! (In my profile) See ya later!
